SMSgt Lawrence McCarter reminds me of when I arrived in Vietnam three months past my 18th birthday. As I grew up in NYC I never drove a day in my life. I get to my unit and they say do you have a license and I say no. No problem they said, they typed me up a military driver's license and said you're driving, your truck is out back. It was a 2.5T! I had no idea how to drive. They gave me about a 30 minute lesson. I was able to figure out how to get it to third year but that was it. One day I'm driving with a Captain and he says Farrell, dont you know how to shift this thing and I said no! Well I learned! I have a few stories with this deuce and a half but one more was when I backed into the latrine with someone in it! Knocked the building over! LOL

SSG (Join to see) - I also had to teach a few AP's, Air Police later called Security Police how to drive standard shifts. I sure drove enough standard shift vehicles on Patrol before I ever saw one with an automatic transmission.
