Just why can’t they be transparent when running for office?

Because nobody would vote for them if they were.

"No one seriously argues that devastating public health consequences don’t occur when criminals or others struggling with mental health conditions have ready access to guns. Policy steps certainly can and should be taken to remove firearms from individuals who pose a danger to themselves or others."

I am again prompted to ask if the violent mentally ill are ONLY dangerous to themselves and others if they have a gun? What about knives, baseball bats, cars, the gasoline that fuels them, etc.? In other words, why pursue a policy of attempting to "regulate society" so that the violent members remain in a free society as a threat "to themselves or others" with unhindered access to different weapons?
It would be far more logical to remove the dangerous people from society, than to attempt to accommodate the dangerous people by such radical change to society as would be required to assure safety for all.

In the article one attacked with a pipe, and another killed one and attacked another with a knife before they were stopped.
