Alcohol and firearm handling never belong together. This is basic gun safety including any situation where a firearm is pointed at any individual which should never happen ! The results of pointing firearms at others often are NOT good and result in serious injury or death. Also it's the unloaded weapon that often kills as no one checked to see if it actually was loaded or not. Firearms safe4ty should constantly be on the mind of everyone that handles any firearm each and every time to prevent this sort of accidental death.

This is truly a very sad occurrence that needn't have happened if excessive drinking wasn't involved... I guess it is easy to be a Monday morning quarterback, but that seems to be the case here... Sad...

Also one of the reasons even on duty our Air Force regulations (now called Instructions) clearly stated NO consumption of alcoholic beverages prior to duty on our Police duties. Your head and mind needed to be where it belongs and not influenced by any drinking at all. Alcohol and handling firearms is NEVER a good idea on or off duty.
