Good morning, Rallypoint, and welcome to the March 26th Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD): "Pluto at Night." Originally published in June 2016, this image of Pluto was captured by the New Horizons Spacecraft as it passed by Pluto in July 2015. The Sun is on the other side of Pluto (about 4.5 light hours away). How far is a light hour? 670,800,000 miles. So multiply that by 4.5, and you get 3,018,600,000 miles. In other words, a good hike.
The layered atmosphere of Pluto as seen in this photo is what jumps out at me. Even at 3 billion+ miles from the Sun, we still can observe processes at work similar to what we observe on Earth. While it wouldn't surprise me to find evidence of other processes (we can only sense four: length, height, depth/width, and time), I do think that seeing things that we do recognize helps us to better perceive new things when they are discovered. Like this new version of a solar eclipse.

Interesting read...and we see very little about Pluto these days...maybe because they downgraded it from a planet?
