Yeah...but rehashing stuff isn't a bad thing... I've been working on my Winchester Model 1910 chambered in .401 (aka .406). Since I cannot find any magazines, I bought a metal bender...tore apart my old citation aluminum clipboard, and so far have fabricated two of them... no springs yet.. but I did the follower and base plate and they are looking pretty good... How does this relate to your article?... Do the Winchesters lock back on an empty magazine? Anyone? I gotta know...lol..

Right now, until I get magazine springs, or fabricate them too, I can force the mag deep into the well, and lock the action up...or I can pull out just a tad and the slide works smoothly... I need to cut in the mag catch which is why I can push it in father or pull it out... Ehh... long day ahead...gotta drive to El Paso to the VA hospital...

SSgt Clare May - Its a work in progress. I swapped aluminum base and follower for stainless steel... I found an old Ford F150 stainless steel muffler wrap and some of the groves fit a 7.62 x 39 perfectly. ( The .401 and the 7.62 share length and diameter) So I cut the follower out as well as the base plate. Welding seams with aluminum wire feed. (I errored and didn't cut the aluminum clips off so the welds suck right now)... Painted one black to see where the filing needs to be addressed. I cut notches out of the base of the mag and the base plate slides in and I left enough of a tab that when folded over, it locks into place. Too busy with Doctors and the VA... more crappy news sorta. I hit the magazine catch spot on... they lock into place and the bolt group works fine... I need springs...lol...

SSgt Clare May - Great job, myself, I always like doing things like this, When it works, great satisfaction.
In 89 building my Caspian 1911, I had a 40mm optic on it, the optic covered the cocking serrations, so I found a peice of aluminum, and fabricated a cocking handle for it, I mounted it in the rear sight dove tail.

SGT (Join to see) - I figure the way the world is going...its only a matter of time when they make people who can figure this stuff out illegal... Recon our likes are getting rarer by the year. Hard to pass things like this onto the next generation when they are being taught to hate this kind of stuff. Nice job on the fabrication... amazing what a little American ingenuity can do... lol.

SSgt Clare May - Thank you for the kind comments. Yes, the new generation won't be able to do things like this, who ever can figger out how to do things when not provided, will survive.
I noticed, people now a days can't even plant a seed and get it to grow. My grandfather always told me, it's easy, just put the seed in the ground. Lol
And, to those that can figure things out illegally, "It's only illegal if you get caught. Lol
It's like the poacher in the 60's that got shot and killed for hunting deer, because he was trying to feed his family. Yes, the government made a law for him not to hunt, but to kill him for it. Why he was shot and killed, he ran away, and was shot in the back, with no threat to the shooter.
Anyway, with me, if I can't do something, I think it out, and if needed, make a tool to do it. I have a few tools that I made, and don't use it to often, but when needed, it's there.
Take care, brother.

A “slide stop only” would not need downward angled cut checkering if it were not designed as a slide release too.

I don't think it was ever designed as a slide lock, it was a slide release, out of convenience, it was used as, and called a slide stop (aka: Lock). And you're right about the checkering, makes sense.
But what do I know, I use it to lock the slide rearward, and use it as a slide release. And, knowing that the slide will lock to the rear when empty, with the mag in the pistol, also, knowing that if the mag has rounds in it, all I have to do is pull the slide rearward to release the slide.
Wow, to much thought process, I just shoot the thing. Lol
