What We Know About Monterey Park Mass Shooting Suspect Huu Can Tran

Lots of pundits got a heaping helping of crow with this story.

The far-left "progressives" suffered multiple sprained ankles from jumping to conclusions on this case. Before the facts were fully known, the wild-eyed lefties blamed this attack on "Asian-hating racists" employing "automatic assault rifles." Only after some actual analysis and reporting was it acknowledged that the perpetrator was a 72 year old Asian man named Huu Can Tran, who was allegedly accused in a recent domestic violence case. Then further facts emerged that the apparent 72-year old Asian male perpetrator used a semi-automatic pistol variant, not one of those terrible AR or AK "assault rifles".
Note that it doesn't help the far-left "activist" case that very few of these anti-gun types can even define what makes a weapon into an "assault rifle". In many cases , the term "assault rifle" refers to how the weapon appears, many of them with a (Gasp!) flash suppressor, or (OMG!) a bayonet lug. The term "assault weapon" often has nothing to do with the item's functionality.
