..."Retirement benefits have hobbled the companies in the past
But a return to the halcyon days of lifelong retirement packages seems highly unlikely, given the toll that such high costs have taken on the Big 3 in the past.

"That's going to be a hard sell," says Marick Masters, a professor of business at Wayne State University. "I think their investors would literally throw up their hands and declare them something that you don't want to invest in."...

It is interesting but it was the union that negotiated those benefits away many years ago. My Father who worked at Oldsmobile for 27 years was oft to say that the union would negotiate a contract one year that added benefits while giving up some and the next contract they would give up the new benefits to get the old ones back. Unions have not been Helping the workers they have been more interested in keeping their power. JMHO

but thanks to stupid President Biden and the Eco communist church for the bad green new deal with his big government socialism through the regulatory state, He is Forcing car makers to go all the trick when not everybody wants electric cars yet. And electric cars use 30 to 40% less people to build. This is an unintended consequence of stupid policies of going green. People don't realize that. After 8 years, the battery goes dead. My wife and I drove seven hundred and twenty miles in one day. Most electric cars can even do five hundred miles and then they require a charge. This is especially true in the winter time when the Distance about the car can go is cut by a third because it has to warm up the occupant and warm the battery at the same time.

At least one car company is going to hybrid period I'm sure the next President is going to change the stupid executive order period we didn't vote on the green new deal is going to be sidelined or thrown in the toilet.

The electric vehicle is not for everybody, and we are not given a freedom of choice period. Electric vehicles have built-in planned obsolescence.

SP5 Dennis Loberger No, is that the auto workers are being set up for failure by a product that will be junk after eight years. The irony is that other car companies have lower overhead than what The UAW is demanding. Another prime example of big government socialism through the regulatory state, picking winners and losers period if they could still make internal combustion engine cars that are more profitable, higher, more workers, then we wouldn't have a problem, but President Biden is using socialist executive order tactics to destroy the auto industry and many people don't like electric cars. Period they prefer a hybrid or internal combustion engine vehicle instead.

Tesla shares are way down today. Because demand is down and they have to cut prices.

This is all adding to inflation period look at UPS USA got a 25% raise period that's going to Be inflationary for parts being shipped to the dealerships. Everybody getting all these big races because of stupid inflation. I realized the idea that auto workers haven't had a cost of living in a long time, but President Biden and his stupid broke back Bidenomics Government socialism decrees forcing automakers what to build and screwing over the employees is making things worse.

But those who don't take my hands comma economics or accounting 101 just won't get it. Democrats just want to print more money. And they didn't cut back 1.7 trillion dollars of deficits. Democrats added over 2 trillion this year alone, and they want to add more now without any defense of the US border, but they care about the Israeli and the Ukraine borders. Democrats and the science of stupid and financial imbalance.

LTC (Join to see) I just read that the UK is not keen on electric car due to many factors, including the high cost of electric vehicles,
The inadequate charging network
Doubts over how long the batteries last
The risk of minor collisions costing thousands to repair
The risk of electric vehicles catching fire in enclosed spaces
The uneven distribution of public charging stations. Their govt is not forcing electric cars on citizens, they have delayed a ban on petrol and diesel cars until 2035, smart move. By that time, US will have shown them what not to do. Lol
I would like to see Congress take a consensus from the feet on the street, rather than push electric cars that we can't afford and aren't ready for that heavy influx, lack of chargers, unaffordable parts, loss of jobs and lack of mechanics to fix gas powered cars, I can just see cars stranded all over because people can't afford a new battery. This could be catastrophic for the planet imo

Moving to all electric cars also moves more manufacturing to China, since a lot of the parts there and the minerals to make them (wonder who decided to shut down mining here in the US instead of just making it more eco-friendly?)
