Very interesting that the AP article doesn't fact-check itself against the very database they are referencing. Most are slight errors (i.e., 37th mass killing, not the 36th .. there were 3 years with more incidents - 2006, 2019, and 2022 ... etc), but the implications of the statistics tied to the story are very misleading.

It is very easy to separate out the information by type (shooting) - since 2006 there have been 450 mass killing by firearm where 2411 victims have been killed and 1785 have been injured. If you look at the statistics for 2023, there have been 35 mass killing (shooting), with 185 victims being killed and 89 being wounded.

To put it in perspective, in 2020 (last stats in CDC's WISQARS database), there were 71,335 violence-related deaths (114 from mass killings) of which 19,384 were homicides involving firearms (96 deaths from mass killings (shooting))

This most recent shooting will again focus on the weapon and not on the fact that it is reported the suspect of interest had a recent mental health hospitalization and our current rules prohibit him from having firearms. More laws will not change anything when the existing structure is not utilized.

I do have one family member that has mental health issues and I'm thankful He has no access to firearms and sure fear what might happen if He did. I do have a problem also with Criminals that have used firearms in commission of crimes and are NOT punished to the full extent of the law. i own firearms Myself but have NEVER had any incident with a firearm and carried them in Police work for over 40 years but there are people with mental health or criminal issues that should NOT have any right to carry to protect the rest of us. Laws that are not enforced have NO value.

Unfortunately, as I remember, not all crimes are reported to the FBI for statistics.

SPC Carl Davis - Absolutely it does.

Using the numbers in the database..

It says that there have been 110 public mass killings (shooting) since 2006 with 845 killings and 1572 wounded.

It says that of all mass killings since 2006:
- 67% were committed in a personal residence
- 52% were family/interpersonal
- 21% were committed during a crime
- 7% involved a semi-automatic rifle.

I agree, this list says a lot (at least for those that actually look at the data instead of making assumptions).

SFC John D. This article is real. This list speaks volumes about our society today. Law enforcement has exposed his social media accounts. Interesting stuff.

SPC Carl Davis - Asking for a 2ND TIME, do you have a single shred of evidence that suggests that this was a hate crime targeting LGBTQIA2S++ hate crime? If not, why is it interesting? What did I miss?

We also have news that he was involuntarily committed to a mental health institution THIS SUMMER. And, his sister tells us that he was experiencing audio hallucinations. That's interesting. And I find it incredible that the DEMOCRAT county Prosecutor and the Democrat County sheriff did NOTHING. Where is your outrage for their failures?
