VA pledges investigation into crisis line after whistleblower concerns

Veterans Affairs officials promised a full investigation into the operations of their suicide prevention hotline a day after whistleblowers told Congress that some unstable callers may be getting ignored or lost in the system.
In a letter to Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee ranking member Jerry Moran, R-Kansas, VA Secretary Denis McDonough said the goal of the Veterans Crisis Line must be to “make sure that veterans get the support they need, whenever and wherever they need it” and that he takes the recent whistleblower allegations “very seriously.”

I called the Crisis Line one time, explaining my situation and the concerns in my life at that time.
I received NO support, NO empathy, NO nothing. . . . So all I could do was hang up!

I had heard horror stories. this is detestable!!! Nobody deserves this kind of treatment in time of crisis.

Hi Lyndon. The crisis interventionist hurried me and my story, acting like she was needing to get on to something and someone more important than me. She didn't even say something supportive to me. I don't recall even a "good bye."
Fortunately, I was able to survive without her and without the Crisis Line. . . .
