One beach in Vietnam, and Yes they actually did surf in country. Even China Beach which was near Da Nang, Vietnam had surfing. Some of it got started by GIs telling their commanders they needed surf boards to save lives well other uses got found for them. It seems also it was a good way of relaxing and escaping the horrors of war at least once n a while. Between both American and Australian troops actual sanctioned surfing areas were set up in several places on the South China sea beach areas in Vietnam.

MAJ Dale E. Wilson, Ph.D. - The small snack bar window at the one on China Beach I went up to the window, just had a bag of chips and a coke from there in 1968. I've been swimmi9ng there but I wasn't a surfer.
