A three part hybrid case? Oh dear lord, here we go with the complete makeover of the ammunition supply system. Good god's, why don't we ever learn?

No, neither except for machine guns. Right now with current fielding only infantry maneuver companies get the M7 system and the 6.8mm round. This means the rest of the battalion still use M4s and M249s in 5.56 and M240s in 7.62 NATO. This completely complicates logistics and direct support.
The M7 weighs in almost double a M4 and basic load out is now 1/3 less. Afghanistan showed a need for longer range but even the FN SCAR proved to be unpopular and left in the arms room; NW Europe does not show a need for the longer range individual weapon….as seen today in Ukraine.
Add with that traditional Army weapons training for most and you will have a poorly trained individual that can not fully appreciate the potential long range capability the M7 offers.
Rant off….

I am a huge fan of .308 and with all the platforms out that fire it we should absolutely use it. Almost everything I own uses the .30 cal projectile and I can build .308, 30-06, .300 BLK, 30-30, and all I need is the specific case.
