Millions of civilians armed with guns don't make our country safer

A hoplophobe speaks:
"I don’t see them being used to defend my country." The fact that they exist in the hands and households of over half the citizens of our country, means that you don't see an aggressor nation invading us with regular ground troops. Basically, since you don't see war on American soil means that, it's working.
"I see them as terrorizing the rest of us and making us afraid to be in public places, at the store, church, temple, music concerts, nightclubs and, worst of all, for our children to go to school." Only in places where Dems have control and the 2A is treated as an after thought. A lot of the afore mentioned situations would be self correcting if the citizens in those communities were allowed to exercise their 2A rights.
"The U.S. Armed Forces are comprised ... With all of that firepower, why does the U.S. need a “well regulated militia” or millions of armed American citizens?" Regular ground troops can't be everywhere at once, the "People" are. The 2A was not written with hunting and sport shooting in mind. It was written with the intention and ability to kill invading troops, and for the most part we're a nation of snipers.
"For those of you with all of those guns, keep them in your homes and away from the rest of us." Our Hoplophobe has no problem, at all, depriving his fellow citizen of their natural right of self defense and defense of others. If He's ok with that, what else might He be OK with? "Shall not be Infringed"
