CPL Douglas Chrysler thank you. I did not listen in my 30s but as I bungled through my 40s, I finally got it right. :)

Not really. when I grew up I was the poor kid. we had nothing but love and our faith in God. The only food in the house was what my mother can from the garde and what I could find in the woods and fields while Hunting. I had real rich friends but they were more comfortable at our houuse because we all stuck to gather and our home was more like what they imagined in their mind. My parents were there to help us any time we needed them. While their parents were always gone overseas or at a big shindig where children wern't wanted. So I saw the greened side, but as I looked around it didn't impress me.Their parents would hire me to put their hay or feed their animals. I always asked ny friends to help me so they could impress their parents and get some praise. I had a Fellow hat was in the salvation Army Band with me he was colored and as we were talking one day we decided to see who was the most dislike for the other color. Black or White. To advance our knowledge we went to a black church.White people were unheard of there. The folks didn't throw me out but stared a lot and no one would talk to me. After the service we determined they didn't want me there but didn't disrespect me either which was a big feather for them. The next Sunday we went to my Church. Before we got to the fromnt door the preacher came out saying " won't be invited here" I replied as you former Sunday school teacher be asvised I will never darken you doors again. good. From our little test we both decided that both side were very pregiduse and we would remain with the Salvation Army where every one is excepted.

I enjoied your post this morning Robert, thanks.
I grew up too, with what we grew or hunted, didn't know the meaning of poor then, but as my father always said, as long as we have a roof over our heads, and food to eat. Yes, we only had an outside toilet then, no running water, but we had rain water to drink. And, cooked on a karosene stove or wood stove, but the food was always real good.
I never knew of Black and White then, but later being in the army I learned what it was. In North Carolina at Fort Bragg, I experenced going to a church where we were told that we had to have a jacket and tie. My good army buddy only had his knee torn jeans to wear, and we were met at the entrance, and told that his pants weren't proper, never went back there again.
In the army, my good black buddy "T" and I, somewhat played in a somewhat band, with our M-60. The music we played we enjoyed, but the receiving end people didn't like the song we played, over and over.

SSgt Robert Simonds AMEN, all that you have expressed is absolutely my experience and what is time stuck in my mind. I guess the midst of hearts waxing cold to the Gospel and becoming lovers of themselves, I only encounter Sunday Christians. I live my life as if every day is Sabbath (7th day of the week) and Sunday (The Lord's Day). Just as you carry the tenants in your heart, so do I. In fact, I serve the Kingdom through direct giving, for the benefit of those who are truly in need, as the Bible describes (if a man is hungry feed him then minister to him, take care of the widows "I deed" widows with no living family, feed the multitudes). Blessing to you this Christ Season.

SGT Carl Blas just imagine "the first shall be last and the last shall be first" this is in the Bible.

SGT Carl Blas - Thank for carl. My father and your fathyer sound lot alike. I was raised in Wisc and Minnesota. Neither state is anythig like it was back in the Fourtys and fifties. Dad always reared me as an adult from the time I was three years old teaching me what was good old common sense andwe did every thing together be it working on the car, in the garden, or shooveling snow.. His favorite saying was "If we have each other, A roof over our hesds and food to eat we are as rich anyone and alot moe than most, I believe he was right. Kind of sounds like our upbringing was about the same.
The churches I went to that excepted me as I was Was the Salvation Army, the band played Trombone and Bast on the street corner in Down town St Payl Minn and we had a service for anyone that woud stop a lesson for a while. Another was Penacostal, or. Holy rollers as they were often called back then and everybody made you feel at home.. Later on I also went to the later day saints it was the one that impressed me the most because of they were like family. No preachers but everyone was a teacher and different members would be called to lead he service and teaach you the Bible. Every friday night there was something for the young folk to get together and get to know one another. beside preaching to them.
