An interesting sidelight is that the General had three sons that also became Generals Creighton III, John and Robert.....

Thanks for reminding us that US Army General Creighton W. Abrams who was serving as commander of U.S. Military Assistance Command Vietnam since July 1968 was nominated to be the U.S. Army Chief of Staff on June 20, 1972 SP5 Mark Kuzinski.
Abrams certainly had been through some challenging assignments culminating with the Vietnamization concept of readying the Army [ARVN] Navy and Air Force of the Republic of South Vietnam to assume all responsibility for defending the nations. I believe we did our best to accomplish that herculean task but the NVA and VC did their best to undermine and defeat the Vietnamization concept.
