APOD: 2020 November 13 - The Tarantula Zone

Good Red Friday morning, Rallypoint. Today's Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) is titled "The Tarantula Zone." We are off to the Southern Hemisphere with this view of the Tarantula Nebula. Also known as 30 Doradus, the nebula is more than a thousand light-years in diameter and lies 180,000 light years away near Large Magellanic Cloud. The Tarantula Nebula is the largest, most violent star forming region known in the whole Local Group of galaxies (which includes our Milky Way). How large is it? If the Tarantula Nebula was as close to Earth as the Orion Nebula (only 1,500 light years away), it would cover half the sky.
