Sending troopers out with Nigeriens was akin to a death sentence and no amount of cover up will ever make it right. Same thing with the RVNs. A fiasco from the gitgo.

Tom I will tell that is one of the many jobs of SF. Just a few of them will go out in very bad places train the host nation force or legitimate force. It is never ideal.
However, I will say anytime our SF finds themselves in a bad place the intel asserts are normally there. There was a ball dropped somewhere by someone.

LTC Jeff Shearer - Yes very true - by habitually sending out a few Americans with indigent forces, we hope to inject some backbone into them, give them a bit of courage and self-confidence, be able to provide support in the form of air or artillery should the poopy hit the fan as is often the case. It appears in this case as if the local Nigerian-type gvt screwed up by changing the mission on their own. I hope the deaths of these young Americans was worth our 'mission' in that god-forsaken sh of a country.
