Great post SGT Steve McFarland! As off duty police officers they probably usually carry a defensive concealed carry weapon of choice... That said, they could and did thwart a robbery and arrested him after a long chase... For the average person on the street, carrying legally, with a Concealed Carry Permit, there is also one other important thing that is needed and that is a concealed carry Insurance policy... Why? If you engage a perpetrator of a crime or a pending crime, you may be subject to arrest yourself, especially if your weapon is fired and someone is injured or killed...
Just going through the process of arrest, attorney's and more can change your financial situation in a split second. I have three levels of training but need more...and I need insurance for legal and financial protection before I would carry on a full time basis... Laws are different in each state... so it is important for those who wish to conceal carry to check the laws in each state where you may travel with a gun in you possession... For example If I left Massachusetts where I have a concealed carry permit and drive through Connecticut, I would be breaking Connecticut state law... and so on through each state that I carry in... There are courses you can take where in the course gives you what you need for most states, but not all... Connecticut and Florida are just two that don't recognize most other states, but have some reciprocal arrangements...
My firing range also runs a school where gun laws and shooting are covered in depth... They have one course that provides you with what you need for a 32 state (Not sure if that number is correct, but believe so) concealed carry permit... It is also good for applying in Florida. Not sure about Connecticut.
Just something to think about before carrying a concealed gun beyond one's state line where you are licensed...

Sgt (Join to see) I checked that out recently, and I think there may be a non-resident CCW, but you should be able to find out online.
