Personally I think that article is exactly the kind of nonsense that we expect to hear from the other side -- and that we rightly dismiss and deride as disinformation. There is nothing to back up the claim. No one has attempted to twist the wording that far out of context and it is unlikely that anyone would or could succeed in making such a claim.

On the other hand, the Lautenberg amendment itself would be on very shaky legal ground if challenged against the standard described in Bruen. There is no historical background for a lifetime ban even for convicted felons, and certainly not for those who were convicted only of misdemeanors.
