That article is basically correct. However Just because you can get VA healthcare does not mean that it is a good choice. I have been enrolled in VA heathcare for years but don't use it. Since I have no service connected medical problems and am what the VA calls a "high income veteran" I have to pay a fairly high deductable and a co-pay. I am not complaining about this. I see no reason that I should get free care other than the fact that it is something that we were promised when we joined. It has always been cheaper for me to use private insurance. I recommend that every veteran enroll in the program but don't expect it to always be cheap or free to use.

I served USAF Res from May 1984-Jan 1986 then went active from Jan 1986-Mar 1987. USAF Res Honorable..USAF General under Honorable conditions. 3 local doctors have claimed me disabled and I still can not get help from the DAV VA what ever you want to call the service. I have been fighting for 2-3 years about tinnitus and I do believe the J-P 4 and J-8 jet fuel caused my auto R.A. being it is an autoimmune disorder. But I am still trying. At 48yrs of age my hands are gnarled, feet messed up and shoulder from the R.A. I have holes in most my bones and SSI also denied me. This gets old arguing with the Government on both sides of a ladder. I have and will always say if someone completes basic and tech school with 1 year service they should be eligible for help. My blank check still stands.
Have a Blessed day. :)

Maybe, just maybe you're claiming the wrong condition. I'm not familiar with RA or any other associated conditions. I have a link below for you to review. The last section in the center column, is Part 4. This may be helpful in researching other similar conditions you can claim. As an example I know a veteran who has Crohns. The VA doesn't recognize Crohns, so they diagnosed the condition as GERD or some thing. Also, if you find anything on the fuel, let me know, I've been searching for years and haven't seen any scientific data to support it. We had JP-5 mixed in with the potable water at one point at sea. I just haven't found a related disability. By the way, you will also notice the C&P Provider's guide on this link.

Very interesting. I had assumed that I was not eligible because I didn't retire from the military.

No sir, I suggest to all my vets to claim anything that they went to sick call or sick bay. What may be insignificant at 20-30 could be detrimental at 60-70-80.
