The members of the West Coast Drill Instructor Association gathered at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego on Sept. 16, 2016, for their annual reunion. Several events were held culminating in the final competition “The Best Damn Cadence Calling Contest in the West.”

Seeing these made me chuckle as it brought back a memory from Ranger School. We had a marine E7 in our platoon, and one day he was picked to call cadence as we marched to the classroom. So he sounded off with a cadence like the DIs in the video, which of course just sounded like unintelligible sounds to a bunch of army guys. But the platoon repeated them after he called them, the same way they would when an army sgt was calling out a cadence like "yellow bird". So you had an entire platoon singing those sounds and laughing until the Ranger instructor told us to knock that shit off or we would low crawl the rest of the way to the classroom
