TSgt Joe C., I moved to Memphis in late November, 1977 after Elvis died earlier that year on August 16th. I lived only about four miles from Graceland.
I toured it a number of times after it was opened to the public. Back then, all you had to do was walk up to a kiosk at the music note gates, pay a nominal entry fee, and walk right up the drive to the front door and walk in for the tour! Try to tour it now! It'll take the better part of a day and a small fortune to take a family of four on the tour!
By the way, I thought the Jungle Room was one of the ugliest rooms I've ever seen!

Thanks for reminding us TSgt Joe C. that in 1957 Elvis Presley agreed to purchase the home called Graceland on the outskirts of Memphis on March 19, 1957 with a $1,000 cash deposit against a sale price of $102,500.
Here are some images of the estate.
