Earthquakes are not unknown outside America. Still, I can well imagine the Pilgrims surprise. On the other hand, I have rarely heard of Tornadoes outside of America. It seems that we may have the mother lode of them here. I wonder at the reaction of the first explorers and settlers moving past the Alleghenies when they encountered these. Personally, I'll take earthquakes over tornadoes...

Jack I agree with you! I have experienced earthquakes and tornadoes in Ohio. Tornadoes are worse in my opinion. I have been through several killer tornado outbreaks. Awful. By the way, I just read here in the U.S., we have more than 70% of all the world's tornadoes due to our unique geography. CPT Jack Durish
