Every year, 10's of thousands of Mexicans and Central Americans look North and see the possibility of a better life. They gather what resources they can and abandon what they must. Then they head North. Along the way, they die and suffer from hardship and predation. They fall victim to human traffickers and become sex slaves, wage slaves, and drug mules. Most of them make it to the US, but at a horrendous cost.
It is time to take the bait out of the trap. No chance of citizenship or legal resident status - EVER. No chance of deportation followed by the chance of subsequent legal re-entry - EVER. No possibility of legal residency or citizenship for minor children who enter the US illegally - EVER. No possibility of any extension of US government benefits beyond stabilizing emergent medical treatment - EVER
Immediate government seizure of all financial assets and real property accumulated while remaining in the US illegally. Draconian fines (tens of thousands of dollars) and long prison terms (not less than five years, not more than ten years) for anyone that facilitates the illegal entry and/ or residency by assistance or employment. Commission of any violent crime or misdemeanor act that causes injury to another,while illegally within the US, should face automatic imprisonment of not less five years and not more than 10 years in addition to and subsequent to all penalties for the actual crime itself.

I have heard this point of view many times and while I agree in part I always ask this, Have you looked at the root cause concerning the situation in their country and what could be done to mitigate such, this reducing or eliminating such migration from happening?

SGT (Join to see) - That is not my job or place. In fact, illegal immigration is a safety valve that let's the steam out of unsatisfactory political and economic conditions in their home country. Furthermore, it most likely provides a course of least resistance that encourages a brain drain and courage drain of the very people that the home country's population needs to spearhead the demand for change.
Would Nelson Mandela have led South Africa out of apartheid if he chose to pack up his family and leave South Africa to wash dishes in the Bronx? Would Mahatma Ghandi have led India out of British colonial rule if he fled to America to drive a cab in Washington DC? Who left Haiti to work in a Florida Hotel rather than set their country on the road to stability and prosperity? Who left Mexico to work in a Michigan Cherry orchard rather than bring down the violent narcotics cartels?
What admirable man or woman would prefer to live free on foreign soil to living free in his home land he or she freed? And what gift is ever valued and protected as much as the same object earned through the blood, sweat, and tears of one's own efforts? The world is a better place because men and women of courage and intellect stay, not because they emigrate to a better place.
