I'm sorry to hear he passed, but he had a great 83 years making us laugh.
Gene Wilder, star of "Willy Wonka" and several classic Mel Brooks comedies, is dead at the age of 83.
Wilder's nephew Jordan Walker-Pearlman said the comedy legend died late Sunday in Stamford, Conn. from complications from Alzheimer's disease, a condition the actor kept private for three years so as not to disappoint fans.
"He simply couldn't bear the idea of one less smile in the world," his nephew said.

One of my favorite movie lines comes from a film Wilder didn't star in but his death made me think of it. At the end of Cocoon, one of the elderly friends refuses to join the aliens who will prolong his life. When asked why he says, "I don't want to watch my friends die again." That seems to be the lot of those of us blessed with long life. We get to watch friends die, and sometimes a familiar actor seems like an old friend.

SFC William Farrell, I didn't care that much about Frankenstein, but Willy Wonka was great. You won't be disappointed.

SGT (Join to see) Loved this guy. He started a downward slide after his wife Gilda Ratner died from cancer. He was out there making movies that much anymore. Sad.

SSG Keith Cashion, Yeah they were only married five years before she died. It broke his heart, and he never remarried. I'll bet the two of them never had a dull moment and were the couple I'd want to be. Gilda's skit, Roseanne Roseannadanna, was funny as hell. She always got off topic and real radical. They were made for each other. It's a shame he died from Alzheimer. They're together again now.

Capt Lance Gallardo - I feel that way too. Our world is less without him and her, but Heaven is a better place because of people like them.
