It was and is but Turkey has never been to fond of anyone reminding them of it. They would prefer that all forget about it.

Why? This is just a poke in the eye of another NATO member state. This is over 100 years ago and does nothing for anyone. I guess it allows some 90+ year old person or family members to sue Turkey in Germany court.

Personally, sir, I think Turkey needs to be held accountable for the way they act in regards to the killings. Several years ago the author Elie Wiesel was going to speak about the Armenian genocide at a conference on genocide in history. He was informed by the Turkish government that if he did so they could not guarantee the safety of Jewish citizens. There is still a large amount of persecution of minority groups in Turkey, as seen with the treatment of the Kurds and Orthodox Christians. Also, the gesture is symbolic. There are no stipulations which allow for the bringing suits against Turkey via German courts. Turkey being held accountable for their actions in 1915 is equivalent to Japan being held accountable for the sexual slavery of Korean and European women in WWII. And I think it gives Armenians a sense of relief, a sense of being believed. The Western reports which came out at that time are horrific reading, and many of them are translated from the German and into English.

Nicholas Efstathiou - Understand it is horrific and Turkey continues to be less than accommodating to non-Turks or Muslim but this vote in no way helps those causes. Everyone is clear that Turkey is a NATO outlier and in my opinion should have never been in NATO.

The Ottoman Sultan, who ordered this was overthrown by the Turks, who have never taken up arms against us. Their soldiers froze and died with our at Chosin Resevoir and they have been our ally. The Oil Companies have been arming Kurdish Terrorists to attack Turkey. They are our NATO. THE OTTOMANS did that genocide. Germany should be ashamed
