Time to crack down on the bad guys no matter what they use to cause mayhem. It's not the gun, knife, fertiliser, car, it is the person controlling it !

I had a discussion on a local site with a gun-grabber who claimed that states with "lax gun laws" are the same states with the most "gun violence".
His "proof" was an article in USA Today that referenced CDC data on "gun deaths", which includes suicide, as well as justifiable homicide. The article avoided being considered untruthful by including remarks on the volume of "gun deaths" that were suicides, particularly Alaska, which they claim had the highest rate of "gun deaths" in the country.
REPOST
“ In Alaska, on the other hand, there were nearly 20 gun-related deaths per 100,000 residents, the most of any state.”
Later on, the article yields some info on suicide in Alaska, the state that leads the country in the rate of “gun deaths”:
““In three states — Alaska, Montana, and Wyoming — suicide accounted for more than 80% of all firearm deaths.”
So let's do the math, (rough, but following the article's principles).
If Alaska has the most “gun-related deaths”/100,000 people ("NEARLY" 20 deaths) and "MORE THAN" 80% of those “firearm deaths” were suicides, then:
20 x .20 = # of non-suicide gun-deaths /100,000 people OR 4 people /100,000.
That's one helluva difference – I make it out as 0.02% / 0.004%. Too bad you either lack the ability to see that FACT, or try to deny it.
It would seem that a problem resulting in the death of NOT MORE THAN 0.004% of the population of Alaska would be dwarfed by not only drug addiction, traffic accidents, etc. but even being struck by falling icicles.
