PO1 Tony Holland I would not really give much credence to this website. WSJ has reported for years the decline in Harley sales. As a rider- those of us that are enthusiasts have seen this before. Harley rode the wave of a rebirth through the 2000s and like any other company capitalizing on growth started to build. What made Harley spectacular back in the day was they were hard to get- not everyone could own one. Then every lawyer, doc, and prominent businessperson had to have one. Mass production. Now the market is flush with bikes with less than 10K miles on them and thousands of after market dollars on them- which count for little when you sell. I just sold a fairly stock 03 Fatboy last year and still got about $8K for it. I bought it for $10K back in 07, put a few things on it, but only "lost" $2k when I sold it. The guy I bought it from had 4k on it and it was 3 years old. Probably rode a lot his first year- then it sat with the exception of one ride a year maybe. The tax cut has nothing to do with sales- a decline of double digit percentage sales is something on management- not on US policy shift. I know everyone is looking to jump the plan, but a business moving because they have less tax burden to another country is a flat out lie. Moving because that is where the market is shifting and you save taxes, tariff, and shipping charges. The foreign market is where Harley will sustain and then if there is another ground swell here in the States- they will return like they did in the 90s.
