What happens if we shut down social media and allow information to flow only from the propagandists? Thanks, but no thanks. I take my chances with the Internet filtered through common sense

The danger of too much information vs accurate /correct information is very real. Propaganda has been a tool since people figured out it worked. News organizations have figured out they can manipulate people with stories that are inaccurate by omission, slight of word, or in some cases outright misrepresentations. It is up to each of us to stay informed. That is one of the responsibilities of citizenship in the most free country in the world.

Part of the problem is too many get news from services that are little more than propaganda outlets. Some people think memes are actual news items. We have a very ignorant populace because they have been dumb downed for decades now. When you do not understand the past and how events actual occur and what people have actually said and done you are subject to manipulation by anyone clever enough to capture you.

I'm not sure how you make people get better informed or to use more verifiable outlets and candidly some of our MSM outlets are questionable today. Too many are caught being first with the news not accurate with it.

This article makes me wonder whether people are really getting an education or not from the university system in the US, to include such prestigious institutions as MIT.

How many of you have even read any of the works of William Gibson (author of Johnny Mnemonic, Neuromancer, and other cyber dystopian stories)? Or how about the works of Alvin Toffler or his book "Future Shock?"

Thinking about this, I would even advise people to read or re-read "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea" by Jules Verne, published in 1870.
