These test are not nor have they ever been foolproof and retest are either given or authorized in some agencies or even private companies as there can well be errors. Cross contamination including testers not changing gloves and other reasons, mixing up samples just to name a few. There are far tooo many things that can cause false positives and it seems a positive reading may demand a closer look but not always be accurate. To take a serious step like ending a career it better be a valid result. I tend to think in the majority of cases the results were valid, were they all ? I know of cases they weren't and that is the disturbing part. I've never tested positive for any of them ever but am aware of cases where the testing had some serious flaws which often were the results of poor procedure and safeguards by the testers.
