There have been religious carve outs in public schools for as long as I can remember. I remember kids who were Jehova's Witness's sitting out classes and activities when I was in grade school. Maryland schools allow for prayer times during the day as long as you have good grades.
The left has been trying to usurp parental rights for a very long time. The schools are following that model and parents have had enough.
As for the charity. If they are paying employees, they pay unemployment taxes too. Cut and dried.

This could be a real conundrum. "There would also be logistical questions to address, including who's responsible for supervising students if they are made to leave their classroom during certain lessons and how to select alternative material that is inoffensive to their parents." Stay tuned...

I had an issue with DoD schools and inappropriate materials. I found out my 10 year old son had been assigned "Stranger in a strange Land". Their purpose was to teach an understanding of "Grok" concept. If that book were to be made into a movie that stayed faithful to what's in the book it would be rated NC-17 at least, probably an X

There is not enough detail to understand the context/course subject that includes LGBTQ themes within the books. I do not believe that such classes would be legitimate part of a biological science syllabus. [It would be interesting to hear such an argument from the RP reliably left.] Back when demands for atypical gender subject matter was not considered appropriate, most "health" classes were divided by sex.
The divided class concept still carries some merit. Parents who wish to exclude atypical gender roles from their children's education would be offered one course and parents who wish to include would be offered another. That should take care of students being supervised.
The real issue to me is the legitimacy of schools teaching with LGBTQ inclusive materials at all. The purpose of elementary grade reading classes is to teach reading, not to normalize gender roles. The purpose of junior/senior high literature classes that use gender normative materials (Romeo and Juliet comes to mind) is not to teach students about romantic love or sexual passion.
Great literature reveals a broader view of the world and encourages imagination. Are there pieces of great literature where the protagonist most important attributes is their sexuality [Casanova may be the one exception that proves the rule.] Such is the emotional and hormonal drive that students will learn about romantic love and sexual passion primarily from their own life experience. Why does the left demand reading materials and literature pieces that include LGBTQ content? What is the end game if not to normalize atypical conduct?
