How to Lose a Special Operations War in Africa

Well since my old friend General Raymond "Tony" Thomas is commanding SOCOM now and we have decades of experience in many parts and a couple decades of experience fighting Islamic terrorists in Sahel and sub-Saharan Africa, and we recognize this is a long-term war I expect that the situation will strategically improve even while tactical losses and wins occur PO1 Tony Holland.
I have a few friends who were special operators in Africa working in other capacities now.

The sad truth is that the SOF community is most often used in political wars in obscure places for obscure reasons. Those are the worst kind of wars to fight. The purpose and end game of the fight are often very clouded.
