"I am calling you from Windows": A tech support scammer dials Ars Technica

PO1 John Miller It is a common misconception that Macs are better for graphics and music. It all stems from their marketing campaign with the original iMac. After Steve Jobs left Apple in the 1980's, they tried to break into the business market. They failed miserably. When Steve Jobs returned to Apple, they needed to change people's perception about their products. So their adds focused on how boring a PC was and that is was only for business, while touting the multimedia and "fun" aspect of the Mac. ie pictures, music, video, etc... This trend continued into the "I'm a Mac and I'm a PC" marketing campaign. All in all, they were brilliant add campaigns, because the myths they espouse are still considered fact by most people today.

I have done all of my recordings and artwork on a Windows and Linux machines. Both powerhouse programs for audio and art started life on the PC and continue to be developed on and tend to have more features on Windows. These programs are Sony Vegas, which started as Sonic Foundry Sound Forge, and Adobe Photoshop. Notice I did not say DJ, I am talking recordings as in working in a studio. Macs used to be prevalent in that world, but they are slowly switching over to Windows/ Linux. This is because in 2012 Apple depreciated support for many features that the professionals used in their software to focus on their core market, the average user. File format incompatibility and a loss of needed features were some of the biggest issues.

SGT (Join to see) Those were 2 problem areas. Another was the removal of key features used in video editing caused projects that were done on previous versions to not load properly.

SSgt Mark Lines - I knew nothing of either. I think Apple has their own suites for such tasks, though. Garageband is Apple-only.
