As a native born Richmond resident I do not have much of an issue with the statues coming down. they were put up in the 30's and 40's by white supremist organizations. What I do have an issue with is allowing the "protesters" to deface said statues and generally cause rioting across the city to further their demands. If you want something done there are proper channels to go through and ways to do it that do not disrupt the whole city and make us all look like idiots on national tv.
Mayor Stoney and Gov Northram have used and abused these riots to push their own ultra left policies. Raising taxes in the city and making sure that no one from the surrounding counties want to come into the city to shop anymore will do nothing but depress the Richmond economy again. As someone who grew up in the "poor" section of the city I am disgusted by this. They are trying to push the city right back into the 70's. Well gentlemen and anyone who voted for them. that's exactly what's going to happen. Have fun with that. Those of us around the city will not be there spending our money anymore. I hope anyone that lives in Richmond has a plan to sell your house quick because it's not going to be worth shit soon.

I fail to understand why removal is better than affixing a plaque that details the historical information so people can understand what was wrong about the South's secession

So they can't honor historical precedence.
