Thank you my friend CW5 Jack Cardwell for posting the music video of Junior Brown performing at Grand Ole Opry in the late 90'. AS he is introduced and performs "A Long Walk back to San Antone" and "Highway Patrol"
Junior Brown is a wonderfully talented performer.
1. A Long Walk back to San Antone written by Junior Brown
Lyrics
INTRO: B7 E A E B7
"The Texas sun is blazin' and I need a place to rest my weary bones
Whatever got me this far has long since left me out here all alone
And now it sure is a long walk back to San Antone
I tried to take her out of Texas because I had to move along
She changed her mind somewhere near Dallas, left me on the highway all alone
And man it sure is a long walk back to San Antone
SOLO
She's tearin' up the car and gettin' rid of everything I own
She's gonna head right back to Texas, change her address and the number on her phone
And man it sure is a long walk back to San Antone
SOLO
This time I gotta backtrack and see if I can find a way back home
Well I couldn't take her out of Texas so she thinks I gotta make it on my own
And now it sure is a long walk back to San Antone
And now it sure is a long walk back to San Antone "
2. "Highway Patrol" written by Junior Brown
Lyrics
"I got a star on my car and one on my chest
A gun on my hip and the right to arrest
I'm a guy who's the boss on this highway
So watch out what you're doin' when you're drivin' my way
If you break the law, you'll hear from me, I know
I'm workin' for the state, I'm the highway patrol
Well, you'll know me when you see me
'Cause my door's painted white
And my siren screamin' in my flashin' red lights
I work all day and I work all night
Just to keep the law and order tryin' to do what's right
If I write you out a ticket, then you'd better drive slow
I'm just a-doin' my job, I'm the highway patrol
[Chorus]
I'm the highway patrol, the highway patrol
My hours are long and my pay is low
But I'll do my best to keep you driving slow
I'm just a-doin' my job, I'm a highway patrol
[Verse 2]
If your drivin' too fast, like you shouldn't do
You can bet your boots, I'm comin' after you
If you wanna race then get on a race track
'Cause if you try to run away I'm gonna bring ya back
I'm here to keep all the speeders drivin' slow
I'm just a-doin' my job, I'm the highway patrol
[Chorus]
[Outro]
I'm just a-doin' my job, I'm the highway patrol"
