Automatic rifles make fire discipline a real problem. It is tempting in the initial moments of contact to pull the trigger and not let go (like grabbing a hot electrical wire - you can't let go).

Which was the very reason the military switched from the A1 to the A2 after Vietnam. Full auto firearms have their place in combat, I just don't think they need to be handed out to all Marine Infantry, which is what the Marine Corps is planning on doing sometime this year.

Cpl Tom Surdi - You need to check your history, young man. The reason that the military switched to the A2 after Vietnam, sure but how long after Vietnam?
Heck, in 1982 I had an XM16E1 lower receiver. Heck the Army hadn't even fully shifted over to the M16A2 when Desert Shield started in 1990.
I find it ironic that between 1986 and 1989 during the period that it was fielded in the 82nd, that I was relearning the Manual of Arms for the M1903 and the M1 rifles since that is what my JROTC unit was using for D&C.
