I would prefer a diplomatic end to the issue, as well. Not that I don't think we could succeed - if politicians got the hell out of the way of warfighters & let them actually fight a war. Something that hasn't really been allowed since WWII. I just don't want to see the insanely huge humanitarian crisis that the region would face trying to get all of those people self-sufficient.

only the insane wouldn't prefer a diplomatic solution. However, diplomacy is just words without a threat to back them up. Too often, American politicians have simply appeased North Korea, giving them whatever they want without anything of value in exchange. Why now should they expect anything else. Thus, the threat must be made clear and present to them. Sure, it's scary, but President Trump didn't create this situation. He just has to deal with it now

Trump didn't create the situation with North Korea.......but he needs to be careful that he doesn't make it worse. One can deliver a tough message, and make clear what we are capable of militarily, without resorting to the schoolyard stuff he used during his campaign (creating a stupid nickname and belittling his opponent). I think he would be taken more seriously by North Korea if he dropped the schoolyard stuff.

SSgt Gary Andrews - you would think so. Still it seems to be having an effect. China is making concessions regarding North Korea that they have never before made, and whatshisface is rattled.
