When I was CHENG on a DDG, they used out ship as a testing platform for similar touch screen displays. I didn't like them, and had them pulled. The problem is that they can be slow to find the screen, versus the button that is always there on a traditional panel. Also, at night, the brightness is turned down so low as to preserve night vision, that you can't really see detail on the screen. In an emergency (like they had early in the morning), their 1st action was probably to turn up the brightness to see what they were doing, instead of taking proper corrective action. Also, consider the watch standers were cross decked from another ship that probably didn't have these panels, and it added to the confusion. My 2 cents, at least... CW5 Jack Cardwell
