During the time I was stationed at Hickham AFB, HI I did meet and become friends with many of the local people and have many a great meal with real Hawaiian food at their own home gatherings. This wasn't for tourist, it was their neighbors and friends that were invited. Also into the small towns and local area that most tourist had no idea about. All around that was a very positive experience. Also some joint parties between Officers of the Honolulu Police Department and those of us in the 15th Security Police Squadron, where some of the Hawaiian HPD Officers cooked an entire pig in the ground in the old traditional Hawaiian way and prepared the food plus performed Hawaiian music added to that experience. We knew and had a lot of Police contact and worked with these HPD Officers on many events. Be it private events or just knowing where to eat as We were spending years, not days in Hawaii.

Some of the local people were also aware My Great Grandmother,(who was with My Mom's Aunt) My Mothers aunt, My parents and even me had lived in the Territory of Hawaii before didn't hurt any although My Mother Aunt and My Dad were there in the US Navy and Me with them as well as My Mom. it was 1971-74 I returned but within the US Air Force at Hickham AFB, HI
