So what is going to be done if the suicide rate continues to climb, despite allowing medical marijuana as a treatment. Either way, in my opinion, it's suicide. Marijuana just prolongs it. As you can tell, I'm against marijuana used as a treatment for PTSD, but, as more and more states are approving it, I'm beginning to wonder if it's for real. Personally, for me, I can't imaging me smoking again. I don't care what the tobacco is, it's still tobacco, and it's not good for your health. I think I'd rather continue taking my oral meds, instead of smoking them.

But VA will eat you for breakfast if you come up hot. It's ok for LOCAL use, but VA is a government entity and to the feds, it's still a class I drug. I won't be giving up my beneies just to get high.

PO3 Tiffany Meyers - "In 2010, the VA updated their policies to no longer deny veterans’ access to medical services due to their participation in a state-legal medical marijuana program". I went through IDES and the VA briefer mentioned that we are not in a state that allows you to smoke medicinal weed. If caught, you stand a good chance at loosing some of your benefits. I don't smoke so I'm not going to ask him which ones. At that time 2012, even DC was not allowing anyone to use the "medical weed" moniker, you just get a citation or locked up. What this mentions IF you are in a state that allows weed, don't report it, and they won't take away your other controlled meds. But remember they do check your blood and urine, and if you come up hot, it could be your ass. The checking for drugs is a side effect of them checking to ensure that any controlled substance you take regularly IS in your system and not being sold. That link does not mention what would happen to you if you are caught in a state that finds weed illegal.
So if you live in a state, commonwealth, territory, or Tee Pee, and you smoke it and they "somehow" find out, they could "eat you for breakfast". So if you are in a state where it is still not legal to smoke, are you willing to test the system? That's what it comes down to. I'm NOT one for making monetary mistakes often, and not big ones then. VA isn't taking shit away from me I earned over a plant. I know vets who smoke and I have no problem with it personally. If it helps them, I'm all for it I want to see my friends do better and enjoy their lives. It's not for me.

SMSgt Jesse Ohlsson - Senior that is where you are wrong. If the VA states that in OR it's "ok" to smoke bud, then get the "Sour Diesel". You won't be disappointed. But if the VA is giving you opiod based meds and you add weed, it then becomes their business in the event you ever are admitted and they test you. If you are in a state that doesn't allow it, you're playing Russian Roulette with your own healthcare.

I'm all for it. Nowhere near as dangerous as Natural and Synthetic Opioids. We have a Opioid Crisis in this Country and Weed/THC might be the answer.

SMSgt Jesse Ohlsson - Maybe it is to you but according to the Navy Urinalysis Program it isn't. I was a Urinalysis Coordinator during my Time in the Navy. Different Category of Drug All Together, You could call them both Depressants, You could say they are both Addictive but the main Argument right now is Marijuana appears to be less addictive than Opium, Morphine, Oxycodone and a better alternative.

SMSgt Jesse Ohlsson - Now having grown up in the Early 70's, I smoked me a bit of Weed but never developed a taste like I did for Cigarettes that plagued me from 14-39, Also liked Booze much better. The Only Hazard that I know of with Marijuana is the same thing that makes it an excellent treatment for those going thru Chemo, it suppresses the Vomit Reflex allowing them to Retain more of their food. You have someone drinking and smoking weed he is much more likely to get Alcohol Poisoning because he will have the same thing going on.

SGT (Join to see), personally...I've never smoked, have no intentions to ever do so. It is interesting to note that the governor of NJ approved the bill also.

TSgt Joe C., I smoked cigarettes for several years but I've been off of them longer that I smoked. I've never tried marijuana and don't intend to. I was surprised to read Governor Christie approved the bill after fighting against it for years.
