Opinion | ‘Chappaquiddick’ Distorts a Tragedy

The real tragedy today is this opinion piece. The real story is that Teddy ran away and, if he had an ounce of decency, Mary Jo would have survived. If I had made this movie, I would have told her story. The opening shot would have been of her, alone, in the car, underwater. I would have focused on the time she spent struggling to survive while Teddy ran away, slept it off, and then fretted over his political career.

We should all be offended by a system perverted. Who you are is never supposed to be more important than the law.

I hope that regardless of where you are on the political spectrum, we can agree it is unethical, immoral, and illegal that Mary Jo Kopechne's body was left in a submerged car, while an important family and their cronies attempted to manage the incident to shield Ted Kennedy and minimize the damage to his political future. Unfortunately, this is not the only such incident with the Kennedy family,
-Michael Kennedy's sexual affair with a 14 year old baby sitter
-Michael Skakel's ( a Kennedy cousin) murder of Martha Moxley
-Joseph Kennedy II accident under the influence paralyzes a Pam Kelly. He is convicted of negligent driving and fined $100.
