I appreciate the sentiment, SSG Robert Webster, but with current U.S.-Russia relations as they are, I’m positive that now is not the right time for such a monument to be erected on U.S. soil, especially in a public venue where U.S. tax payers would foot the bill for the park. Granted, we worked together with Russia then, but that was then and this is now. I’m not sure there’ll ever be a right time for such a suggestion to be carried to fruition.
I’m also aware that a statue of Lenin can be seen by the public (although on private property) in Seattle, Washington. I’m not altogether pleased with that situation either, but it is on private land.

The fact that you would compare the proposed memorial in North Carolina with a statue of Lenin in Seattle boggles my mind. This is EXACTLY the time to put up a memorial like this, to commemorate both the lives of the lost airmen and a time when we were able to work together with the then Soviet Union -- except I don't trust leftists to not deface or destroy such a monument if one goes up. Current U.S.-Russia relations would be a helluva lot more cordial if the left hadn't lost their freaking minds when Hillary lost and needed a scapegoat.

We don’t often disagree, SSgt Christopher Brose, but in this instance, we’ll just have to disagree. I stated my reason for nay, and you stated your reason for yea. I’ll not try to dissuade you of your opinion.
Also, you may say that the comment about Lenin’s statue was a comparison, but it was not. It was simply a tangential observation made in a separate paragraph. To say that I have compared the two is disengenuous.

LTC Stephen C. - I think that both you and SSgt Christopher Brose are correct. Now figure that one out.
