"The FBI expressed concern that the release of the diary from a transgender person could lead the public “to dismiss the attacker as mentally ill,”' Why would the FBI be trying to quash the idea, when it is so blatantly obvious. A person that can kill other humans, children even, indiscriminately, has Mental Health issues. Or, is it a matter of indoctrination? Those are the only two reasons I can think of.

Everyone has known all along that this person was mentally unstable. Some may have been unwilling to admit it, but everyone has known The release of the diary does absolutely nothing to change this, aside from making those who refuse to admit the truth actually face the truth.
The most important lesson here, though, has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with the perpetrator's mental status. It has EVERYTHING to do with threat assessment and risk management.
Simply put: make yourself a hard target.

I am kinda surprised it was not released sooner as I read someone where she was angry she could not transition. The left could have framed this that she did it because of that reason and anyone anti-trans is to blame.
