This retired Canadian Major General interviewed Former President Bush a few years ago and found out he was going to join the RCAF had it not been for Pearl Harbor. This General fought at Normandy flying P-51 missions and he is credited with spotting General Rommel's staff car in France and relaying Rommel's position. A Spitfire was dispatched to shoot the vehicle which injured the Field Marshall.

The first part of his book excerpt describes how he relayed the message to fighter command about a German staff car with high-ranking officers. He did not find out until years later that it was the field Marshal. Since he was a reconnaissance pilot, he could not shoot the vehicle.

The General's credentials are certainly impressive and His own role in History. Interesting is if it weren't for the Pearl Harbor attack President Bush may well have flown for the RCAF instead of the US Navy. Both men certainly had their experience in aerial WWII combat.
