Here is the 1967 tune by Scott McKenzie urging people to go to San Francisco. It is a pleasant song which among other reasons drew far too many people to San Francisco. Some found their dreams but many became disillusioned by the reality of San Francisco on a day buy day basis.
Certainly there was good music, Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Quicksilver Messenger service were all playing for free at times in the parks.

LTC Stephen F. Really a great song and very appropriate for time. I was in dry dock at Vallejo Mare Island Shipyard. We were homeported in Long Beach so on weekends we would go home and on Sunday afternoons the drive back up 99 was filled with young hitchikers.

Mare Island has been developed by Lennar and expensive housing. I was going to buy there but the smell from the refinery drove me away
