Does "...Humor not only help individuals ascend to positions of authority but also helps them lead more effectively once they are there..."?
I was reading this article (https://hbr.org/2020/07/sarcasm-self-deprecation-and-inside-jokes-a-users-guide-to-humor-at-work) and was wondering since so much "humor" is being placed here on RP, is it worth a serious discussion to talk about the state of humor and its deeper context just before the 2020 election, before 2016 and beyond 03 Nov 2020.
The article states that "...Humor and laughter are intricately tied to status and power. People in lower ranks who wield them well can climb the status hierarchy in their departments and organizations...." The article goes on to say "....But the violating nature of humor is also what makes it risky. Jokes that go too far over the line of appropriateness have the opposite effect—an “eeeek” reaction. Rather than thinking that the joke teller is intelligent and competent, observers think, What an idiot or I can’t believe he just said that...."
So, to answer this a scientific method process here is some research RP readers might fine - interesting. In that interest, I wonder if a certain group of people are inclined to ever smile or ever learn to not take themselves tooooooooooooooooooooooo seriously. I know I work hard to not take myself too serious. I admit it is hard. But, I have a wonderful grandson who can quickly disarm me and make me think and then laugh at myself. So I am one of the lucky ones.

Humor can indeed be healing and helpful. The key is knowing what line not to cross and these days that's pretty tough

Lt Col Charlie Brown I think if George Carlin or Richard Pryor were talking about "Fleas" and some one who raised fleas for a living was listening to their comedy routines and became offended, they'd double down. After all fleas can transmit the plague. Who the hec wants that? So, laughing at fleas should not offend people, but I suspect there may be a "Flea's Advocacy and Kindness Engagement Group (FLAKE GROUP) somewhere?!?!?!?
As a preventive medicine / public health guy I find little that is redeeming in fleas. Plague is not the only disease they can transmit!

Also, I absolutely agree that directed attacks designed to hurt are not jokes, even though some people like to use the well worn "escape clause" of "...I am just joking...." What they are really saying is "I (using it in the context of the example - only) want to insult you and make others believe I am just playing around." I have seen this excuse too many times.
