Absolutely awful taking the 101st down to one CAB. Hamstrings the Division. Air Assault, right? Kind of hard with only half the lift. Don't get me started on the death of the DISCOM, with the finishing move of deactivating the 801st BSB. The 101st Sustainment Brigade is a fine organization though, but just not the same without the DISCOM. the 4th BCT (506th- Spade) I mourn for sentimental reasons.

I would think it would depend on the breakdown and organization of the Brigade. Most divisions have restructured over the years. I don't like how they changed the structure of the Brigade Combat Teams and renamed some of the units a few years back, then restructured them again obviously and could have renamed certain units, but did not. For example I used to be in the 2nd Brigade "Strike" which was 1, 2, 3rd Bns of 502nd Infantry. Then they made them Brigade Combat Teams which consisted of basically 5 Bns consisting of 2 Infantry Battalions, a Cav. Regiment, a special troops bn. and a support bn. So they had 1st and 2nd Bns of 502nd Infantry, they changed 3rd/502nd to 1/75th Cav, and then the 2 support bns. Now they changed it to 6 bns, consisting of 1/502, 2/502, 1/26 Infantry Bns, 1/75 Cav, 39th Enginer bn, and 526th Brigade Support bn. I wish they would have re-designated the 3rd Infantry bn. back to the 3/502 but they didn't . They did that in all the brigades. So you have 2 each of 187th and 327th Infantry battalions in their respective brigades, and then a thirdInfantry bn that is some other numeric designation. It's kind of like they bastardized the units. 187 is the Rakassans, but they have 1/187 and 3/187 (Rakkasans), then they mixed in 2/506th (Currahees), so how is that Rakkasan Brigade?

They added 2/506th to 3rd BDE when they restructured because it was such a historic unit and they didn't want to deactivate it's battalions.

I can second how ridiculous the division's air capability is. A couple years ago, we couldn't even do a battalion air assault with less than - if I properly recall - three lifts.

In my opinion, each brigade needs its own organic aviation battalion.

@SPC Robert Coventry Seems to be a lot of consolidation of units. No sure it is the best.
