When I first saw the discussion title I was thinking of the shadow box which would contain our military medals and memorabilia Capt Seid Waddell. Now I see that you are referring to WWII night fighting which was long before night vision goggle were available.
It is interesting to see a Together we Served posting on RallyPoint. LTC Stephen C. invited me to join Together we Served last year.

LTC Stephen F., I think you were right the first time - I believe the shadow box did refer to his medals and memorabilia - including his story. This is a regular feature of TWS.
