Remarkable, how the demagogues manipulate the emotions of all affected by this multi-layered failure, to conflate a "solution" of these horrors to "more gun control".
The mis-direction of efforts is still their tactic, after many years of failure, and nothing but a perverse worsening of the situation resulting from their senseless dedication to the myth "The gun's to blame".

My 12 year old son was hit and killed by a distracted driver. He was changing the CD in his CD player and swerved off road striking my son at 55-60 miles per hour.
Five years ago, I was involved in a head on collision. A teenage driver was texting and struck a car that was stopped, waiting for me to go by so they could turn left into their driveway on a rural road. They were propelled into a head on collision with me. I was driving a 3/4 ton truck towing a 16 foot trailer with 3 tons of hay on a trailer, at 55 mph. There was no time for me to even touch my brakes. The husband in the passenger seat died. The mother lost her spleen, and about ten feet of her intestines. She underwent 7 surgeries to reconstruct her face. Two children under 10 will spend the rest of their lives in wheelchairs, and most likely die of complications before they are 50.
I'm not screaming to remove cd players from cars and to put regulators on phones that de-activate them if they are traveling faster than 3 mph. Your rights should not be affected by people who are irresponsible. The irresponsible people should have their lives destroyed.

Maj John Bell - I thought I was agreeing with you. Just illustrating that laws don't stop actions. I agree with your point. I obviously didn't make that very clear.

Maj John Bell - I have found. and frequently reference, a similar expression of that idea.
“Laws that criminalize conduct not wrong in itself [malum prohibitum] to prevent crime before it occurs make the behavior of criminals [or psychos] the measure of the rights and scope of liberty that the law will permit to the innocent. [e.g. 'Assault weapons [sic] are dangerous in the hands of criminals, therefore, no one shall have them'].
Such laws tell the law-abiding that their rights and liberties depend not on their own conduct, but on the conduct of the lawless. That the law will permit the innocent to have only such rights and liberties as criminals will allow.” --- Jeff Snyder
Just add "irresponsible and foolish people" to criminals and psychos.

CW3 Harvey K. - I was paraphrasing a post I believe you did 4 or 5 days ago. It was brilliant and a blinding glimpse of the obvious. Undoubtedly in the top 5 nuggets I have found on RP.

Maj John Bell - Thank you for that praise, Major.
There seems to be a "solution" to our social problems like violence, and the reckless, irresponsible behavior you have illustrated in your comment, that appeals to the simple-minded. Write laws aimed at the control of the lowest level of society in all categories, morality, sanity, responsible behavior, etc. as if their behavior was typical of all society.
Semper Fi.

“Think of the children” or “#protectchildrennow” is a cliche example of “plea to pity” and “appeal to emotion.” These are logical fallicies.

Sgt Kennedy, I hope that to service members like you - protecting our country where “protecting our children” easily falls under is not a “cliche example of plea to pity” with factual evidence that our soldiers continue to come home in flag draped caskets as our children are killed on U.S. soil. This is not manipulation of emotions to win an argument, this is keeping our children safe - be it teaching them strategies to survive an attack or merely heightening their situational awareness, at least until the broken system is fixed.

Maj (Join to see) unfortunately you are used emotion based tactics “Flag draped” is one example. I and others like me are not opposed to solutions. We are opposed to emotion based arguments.

Demagogues use emotions to manipulate people into doing as they wish, to advance their agenda, hiding the fact that their proposed "solution" is worse than useless.
