I saw this earlier. I disagree with that article. I believe that any exposure can be used to bring action.

Yes, the push-up challenge does not necessarily generate any direct donations, but it can generate aggregate donations by raising awareness to specific charities or causes.

PO3 David Fries If the 22 push-up challenge is advertised more, it would get more involvement from the public. It should be made more aware to the public like the ice water challenge. You'd think preventing suicide would attract some stars and athletes, to promote it even more.

I think that being aware of Veteran Suicide, or suicide in general, is a lot easier for people to grasp than ALS. People can relate, in a way, to suicide. Almost everyone knows someone who has committed suicide or has even contemplated it themselves. If a vet you know is expressing suicidal ideations, you may be able to get them to the hospital for help. If they will not go, there are ways to address that, too. You just may save a life. As for ALS, not so much. I had the honor or knowing a former Marine, one of my nursing school classmates father, who was the longest surviving ALS patient on record. He was cared for at home. I learned a lot about ALS from him. He could not speak, except through computer systems provided by the VA. Once diagnosed with ALS, it is just a matter of time. With suicide, if interdiction is made, there is a chance for a normal, productive life. If we can see a jump in donations to suicide prevention programs as ALS did, that would be great. $23.5 million to $115 million in a year is nothing to sneeze at!

What you wrote is real and true. Sometimes they don't tell anyone. I think there's nothing can be done about that. The ones I know who committed suicde, didn't tell anyone, or let on they were going to do it. They just did it. Thanks for the information SGT Tim Soyars.
