I used to say to people: "How bad was the Inquisition that it still strikes fear into people five hundred years later. And Non Catholics know what you mean when you say: "What is this? The Inquisition?" It has been nearly 200 years since the last person was executed by the Inquisition. And still we know about it.

As bad as it was the inquisition didn’t hold a candle to the horror carried out in the twentieth century by the likes of Stalin, Mao and the Khmer Rouge etc. . 100 million killed over 100 years. There are ow museums related to Stalin’s rule of terror. A father sent to the Siberian work camps for 20 years for scribbling on a picture of Stalin. Stalin’s chief of the secret police said,” show me the man, I will show you the crime”. During a two year period 750,000 people were killed. Stalin is estimate to have killed 20 million. Millions more were tortured.

I agree Stalin was a monster. But that killing was not in the name of somebody's "god."
